DIY Rose Petal Summer Scrub

This year the beach rose love affair continues! We are gearing up for our annual rose water distillation- gathering equipment, organizing our space, upgrading processes, and reflecting on the role this aromatic water has played in our healing journey.

In doing so, I am reminded of the many uses of rose water (spoiler- it’s waayyy more than a face mist!).

With summer right around the corner, this cooling, gently astringent body scrub is sure to soothe sun-kissed skin. My favorite thing about this scrub, aside from it featuring rose, is the use of hydrosol and fresh aloe. While this means the scrub must be refrigerated, it makes for a lighter product in comparison to oil based scrubs. This also means the scrub is more easily ‘digested’ by the skin- perfect for summer!

Ingredients:
1 oz fresh beach rose petals
3 oz sugar
4 oz pink salt
.5 oz fresh aloe (peel and use inner filet)
.5 oz rose water

Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth. Store in the refrigerator + use within one week.

Usage:
Apply scrub to scalp and body (avoid face as it’s too coarse for that delicate skin!). Work in circular and/or downward strokes. Rinse off with warm water.

Benefits:
Physical:
Fresh aloe + rose work in tandem to balance and cool overheated summer skin. Aloe’s astringency + bitterness gently dry up excess moisture from sweat, humidity, and oily skin. Rose petals + rose water deeply calm irritation and cool heat that accumulates in the body after a day spent outdoors. Sugar (moistening) and salt (drying) are used here, again, to balance moisture. Red, sensitive skin will find this DIY summer scrub most soothing.

For extra sensitive or sunburned skin please opt for simply misting the face + body with our rose water (the Beach Rose Hydrosol) as exfoliation may cause further irritation.

Energetic:
Just like a freshly prepared meal at grandma’s, homemade skincare is full of Prana, or life force energy. You can also call this love :) This is incredibly healing for our subtle bodies. Use this scrub to tone + strengthen the heart.
